Mason Square Hotel

I had read before making the reservation that there were 22 stairs so I was prepared for that. What I didn’t know is that each room doesn’t have its own thermostat and it can be in another guests room which happened to us. It was very stuffy and we were not about to go knock on someone’s door and ask them to turn the thermostat down. There is also no window in the room we stayed in so we were up and down all night adjusting blankets. We were in the shop room make sure you like a hard mattress my husband and I were both stiff in the morning. I did like the location to food and shops.

Great, clean hotel and fantastic location. We recently stayed for the Mason Round Up and this location can’t be beat! I’ll definitely stay here again.

Great stay enjoyed the Balcony, Room clean, Bed comfortable Shelly very helpful making reservations. One suggestion leave the stairs light on its was off this morning and the stairs were hard to negotiate. I well return maybe at Xmas time

Perfect location, can walk to shop or eat. Have been staying at this location since 2019. The Library room is our favorite! We will continue to stay, our favorite place !!!

Nice hotel, but needs some minor maintenance and repairs. Light fixtures were broken and door wouldn't close properly. Nothing major, we would stay again but it just needed a little freshening.

Another update - I stayed again a year later and it had changed slightly. The breakfast area is no more and the front common room / balcony is now part of the highest priced room in the "hotel". It's still very clean, etc., but not what I'd call a B&B by any stretch. This is purely personal preference, but my room was a bit more "fluff than stuff", i.e., it was *very* "cute" but I would've preferred more "functional". The was only one uncomfortable metal chair, the shower had a cute perforated bucket suspended below the shower head (which I removed for use, then replaced), etc. Nothing wrong, per se, but just not my cup of tea anymore. YMMV.

Although the cancellation policy is minimum 10 days, the hotel is everything it states it is. I greatly appreciated it being centrally located, allowing me to go on foot to most of the attractions I visited during my extended weekend. The only thing missing was a microwave oven.

I stayed here in March 2025. The rooms were clean and charming. The downtown location was perfect. I got a genuine taste of small town Texas during my stay. I loved the local shops and museum. I recommend the homemade cinnamon rolls at the bakery next door. I will be returning soon!
